On the occasion of World Zoonosis Day, special awareness programs were organized under the auspices of Rajahmundry Government Medical College on Monday. College Principal Dr. M.S. Raju attended the program as the chief guest. Public Health Days Nodal Officer Dr. B. Srinivas Nayak, Professor Community Medicine, said that everyone should be aware of the prevention and control measures for diseases transmitted from animals to humans (zoonosis). Awareness was created on topics such as personal hygiene, environmental hygiene, One Health approach, animal welfare, importance of vaccinations, and post-bite treatment. Dr. K. Sivaprasad, Vice Principal, explained that along with personal hygiene, hygiene is necessary for the health of domestic animals. Dr. V.V. Durga Prasad, HOD, Community Medicine, said that since prevention of zoonosis diseases is important, he advised the students to spread awareness about these and create awareness among the people. College Principal Dr. M.S. Raju said that on the occasion of Zoonosis Day, everyone should take care of the health of their pets, that pets improve mental health, and that they should also take precautions against diseases spread by animals. He advised the students to create awareness about zoonosis diseases among animal lovers and prevent the spread of diseases. Later, the third year MBBS students of the college made a wall poster on zoonosis diseases and displayed it explaining their spread, symptoms and preventive measures. Next, Principal Dr. M.S. Raju started the awareness rally by waving the green flag. In the rally, the students raised slogans to spread awareness about the theme of this year’s World Zoonosis Day among the people. At the end of the program, students, faculty and staff formed a human chain and took a pledge to express their support for the prevention of zoonotic diseases. Heads of various departments, faculty, non-teaching staff, college staff and a large number of students participated in the event.
