Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has strongly objected to the announcement that 20 Lok Sabha members of the party have merged with another political party. He has asked Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to immediately disqualify the MPs who have changed parties. He said that as per the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, a merger is not valid without the support of two-thirds of the party members.
