Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has strongly objected to the announcement that 20 Lok Sabha members of the party have merged with another political party. He has asked Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to immediately disqualify the MPs who have changed parties. He said that as per the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, a merger is not valid without the support of two-thirds of the party members. He criticized these MPs for insulting the verdict given to the Trinamool Congress by the people. The Speaker is likely to take a decision on this matter after hearing the arguments of the concerned MPs soon.
