A colony built for the poor… today a hotbed of problems: dilapidated buildings… dilapidated parks… the menace of stray dogs… the terror of quarry lorries… a dearth of medical facilities…

Gajuwaka, (Punnami Representative): Mangalapalem JNNURM colony, built at a cost of crores of rupees with the aim of providing a better living environment to the poor, has today become a place of problems. While government properties are falling into disrepair, the residents of the colony are constantly struggling for basic infrastructure. Although the problems are increasing day by day, the locals are expressing their concern that the concerned authorities and public representatives are not paying attention. The government school building, which should be useful for the future of government school students, has been closed for years and is falling into disrepair. This building, built with public money, has become a home for garbage and bushes due to lack of maintenance. Locals are questioning the waste of crores of public money. Dilapidated parks… Children’s play is far away The parks set up for children resemble a jungle due to lack of maintenance. Broken play equipment, overgrown bushes and accumulation of garbage have made it impossible for children to play. Parks that should provide enjoyment to the people have become dangerous areas today. Community hall, which was built for the people, has been closed for years. The building, which was supposed to be used for meetings and social programs, is falling into disrepair due to lack of maintenance. Fears due to the menace of stray dogs The menace of stray dogs in the colony is increasing day by day. Children, women and the elderly are afraid to come out. Locals allege that the authorities are not taking any steps for a permanent solution even though dogs have already attacked many people. Special attention needs to be paid to Anganwadi centers The colony residents say that there is a lack of infrastructure in Anganwadi centers. They want the government to take special steps to ensure a safe environment and better services for children. Quarry lorries are a hell for the people of the colony Another big problem for the colony residents, who are already suffering from many problems, is the movement of heavy lorries going to mining quarries. With the establishment of a quarry route in the middle of the colony, heavy dumpers and lorries are moving at high speed and with heavy loads throughout the day. Dust is rising rapidly as these vehicles fall on the dirt roads. Noise pollution and air pollution are reaching extreme levels and are having a negative impact on people’s health. Children, the elderly, and those suffering from respiratory problems are facing severe difficulties. The fear of accidents is also haunting the constant movement of heavy vehicles. Thousands of people live here… No primary health center The lack of even a basic primary health center (PHC) in this huge colony, where thousands of families live, has become a matter of great concern. Even if they get a minor illness, they have to go to Gajuwaka or other areas. People are facing serious difficulties due to lack of medical services in times of emergency. This situation has become even more difficult for pregnant women, children, the elderly, and those suffering from chronic diseases. On the one hand, dust and air pollution are increasing, on the other hand, the lack of medical facilities is further endangering the health of the colony residents. Who will answer the questions of the people? – Why are government buildings built at crores of rupees lying unused? – When will the dilapidated parks be developed? – When will the community hall be made available to the public? – When will there be a permanent solution to the problem of stray dogs? – When will infrastructure be provided in Anganwadi centers? – Why were quarry lorries allowed to ply in the middle of the colony? – What measures will be taken to curb dust and noise pollution? – When will a primary health center be set up in this colony where thousands of people live? Respond at once The locals are demanding that the government, public representatives and relevant authorities resolve the problems faced by the people of Mangalapalem JNNURM colony on a war footing. In the wake of criticism that the colony built for the people has become a symbol of negligence today, the colony residents are demanding that the authorities respond immediately and take permanent measures to resolve the problems.
