The Iranian government has officially invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the funeral of former Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. World leaders are being invited to the funeral in Tehran, Qom and Mashhad in the first week of July. The Ministry of External Affairs is yet to announce a decision on whether Prime Minister Modi will attend on behalf of India. The invitation assumes significance in view of the bilateral relations between India and Iran.
