Transport officer dies after being hit by lorry while on duty

District Transport Officer M. Venkanna died in a road accident while on duty in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district of Telangana. He was controlling traffic near the Regional Transport Office when a tipper lorry loaded with coal hit him. The incident took place while he was directing traffic to take a seized harvester vehicle to the office. Venkanna, who sustained serious injuries, died on the spot. The police have taken the lorry driver into custody and are investigating. Initial investigation revealed that the accident was caused by reckless driving and speeding.
