The Centre has fixed the minimum wage at ₹300 per day.

The central government has set the minimum wage for rural workers at ₹300 per day under the Vikasit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Aaj Vikas Mission (Gramin) scheme. While this increase has been implemented in states that were paying less than ₹300 so far, only a minor increase has been made in states that were already paying more than that. Wages have increased significantly in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. However, the Congress party has criticized this decision and demanded that the minimum wage be ₹400 per day, keeping in mind the current price situation. Many are also expressing objections to the cost sharing between the Centre and the states in the new policy.
