Over 200 teak trees illegally cut down in Chalakudi

An incident of illegal felling and sale of 273 teak trees in the Chalakudy forest division of Kerala has come to light. Preliminary investigation revealed that the trees were removed in the name of road expansion work and sold to a private company at a low price. Officials said that the government has suffered a huge loss of revenue. The investigation report has suggested that action should be taken against those responsible in this matter and compensation should be collected.
