Harassment of Dalits and tribals during coalition rule – Kakani

Potti Sriramulu Nellore district YSR Congress Party district president Dr. Kakani Govardhan Reddy, along with former legislators Ramireddy Pratap Kumar Reddy, visited the Erukula woman who was assaulted by Telugu Desam Party leaders in Kavali town of Nellore district. YSR Congress Party chief and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy visited the victim’s family and assured them that the attack on the Erukula woman in Kavali town was extremely regrettable. As per the instructions, former legislators Ramireddy Pratap Kumar Reddy, local YSRCP leaders and women leaders visited the victim’s family and inquired about the details. Listening to the details told by the victim, it makes one wonder whether we are actually living in a civilized society. Kakani alleged that during the rule of the coalition government, women are not seen moving around with their heads held high. A tribal (ST Erukala caste) woman’s family was attacked in Kavali. The woman was insulted in the name of caste, dragged by her hair into the street, and stripped naked. The accused beat her brutally with their feet and hands, causing serious injuries. Kakani and Pratap Reddy expressed their grief that the woman went inside the house and locked the door to protect her honor. The accused who committed the attack went in reverse and filed a case against the victims and took the victim’s son to the police station and made him sit. The victim, suffering from injuries and humiliation, went to the police station and questioned why they brought her son. The police told the victim that a case has been registered against your son… “The matter of beating you should not come out,” and if the matter of beating does not come out, we will send your son without any case, she alleged that the police had set a condition. If you threaten to file a case, the police threatened to file a goonda act against your son and open a rowdy sheet, and scared the Erukula woman, made her sit in the police station, and the police forced her to sign a compromise deed (compromise document) saying that there were no disputes between the two and that they would no longer be friends and the case was closed. From there, they took her to the MRO office and had her fingerprinted. They alleged that a false certificate was created in the MRO office stating that she had converted to Islam even though she was an ST woman. Govardhan Reddy and Pratap Reddy said that they will fight until justice is served to the victim. Party cadres reached Kachcheri Mitta in large numbers along with them.
