Kamareddy, June 18, (Punnami Reporter): The process of granting official identity cards to media representatives in Kamareddy district has been the subject of intense debate. Allegations are being made that the District Information and Public Relations Officer is taking unilateral decisions, ignoring the instructions of the District Identity Card Review Committee and the orders of the Collector. Telangana Press Association District President Rajnikanth has called for a protest against the discrimination against journalists of small newspapers by not issuing them cards. Identity card confusion in numbers: A total of 548 journalists across the district have applied for identity cards, and the current situation is as follows. Approved cards: 273 Under consideration: 85 Companies are in the pre-registration stage 38 Rejected without the knowledge of the committee: 156 Main objections of journalists – allegations: Cards printed but not distributed: Out of the 273 identity cards approved and already printed by the committee, the committee members are angry that the information officer is still delaying the issuance of identity cards to journalists of small newspapers. 156 applications rejected without the knowledge of the committee. 156 applications were rejected without any prior information being given to the Identity Card Committee. This has created a dilemma for eligible journalists who have to apply again from the beginning. It is noteworthy that the Information Officer is refusing to provide the committee with even the lists of applications approved, rejected and under consideration. Discrimination against small newspapers – violation of rules. The leaders of the association allege that the representatives of small newspapers registered with the Information and Public Relations Department are being severely looked down upon. They are objecting that cards have been granted in favor of some people even though they do not have a certificate of ownership, while at the same time, there is no willingness to give cards to reporters working in offices, freelance translators and senior experienced journalists. Disregarding the Collector’s orders! Despite the District Committee Chairman/Collector’s clear instructions that “all eligible journalists should be given cards and the committee’s recommendations should be strictly considered,” it seems that the Information Officer is not taking them into account. When the committee members brought this matter to the attention of higher officials, the officer’s careless reply, “I will give the cards myself, will they?” reflects his one-sided attitude. Call for agitation.. The world of journalists across Kamareddy district is deeply dissatisfied with the way the District Information and Public Relations Officer is behaving. The District Journalists’ Association has made it clear that they will fight uncompromisingly on behalf of the association until everyone who is eligible receives an identity card and the decisions of the committee are implemented as per the rules. They called on all the representatives in the district to come together and make the dharna programs a success.
