Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has written to Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on the proposed International Container Transshipment Port (ICTP) project in Great Nicobar Island. He has sought clarification on the environmental, biodiversity and livelihood impacts of the project in the Galathia Bay area. He said that a comprehensive study needs to be done from all angles before undertaking any large-scale infrastructure development. He suggested that while the project may be beneficial for the country’s trade, environmental protection should be given priority.
