A key development has taken place in the case of misuse of gold during the gold plating work at the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the case, in its interim report submitted to the Kerala High Court, has raised doubts about the role of several people, including the then Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) president. The report states that in 2019, when the Dwarapalak idols were being transported to Chennai for gold plating, false details were entered that they were made of copper plates and not gold, and the original gold was misused. The High Court has allowed the SIT to register a new case based on this report. It has also directed that the final report be submitted as soon as possible.
