Farmers’ association to provide remunerative prices to tobacco farmers

Marripadu: The Andhra Pradesh Farmers’ Association organized a protest at Marripadu Center on Saturday, demanding a remunerative price for tobacco farmers. The farmers’ association had earlier decided to organize a huge rally with tractors from Marripadu to Atmakur and submit a petition to the RDO. However, the police denied permission for the rally and prevented them from going with tractors. In this order, the police detained the state general secretary of the farmers’ association, Prabhakar Reddy, along with several leaders. In protest, farmers and farmers’ association leaders staged a protest on the national highway at Marripadu Center. The farmers continued their agitation despite the police detention, causing traffic disruption for some time. Police were deployed in large numbers to bring the situation under control and tried to disperse the protesters. Speaking on the occasion, the state general secretary of the farmers’ association, Prabhakar Reddy, demanded that the government immediately announce a remunerative price for tobacco farmers and take steps to purchase them. Farmers are facing severe financial difficulties and he has asked the government to respond immediately. AP Farmers’ Association’s former district secretary Chandra Rajagopal, district secretary Moola Venkaiah, Udayagiri constituency farmers’ association leader Kaki Venkataiah, YSRCP mandal leader Gangavaram Srinivas Naidu, youth leader Sandra Narayanaswamy, CPM mandal secretary Sahajarantullah, CITU mandal secretary Battala Ratnaiah, construction workers mandal secretary Dandu Johnson, leaders of various farmers’ associations, DYFI, CPM, YSRCP leaders, activists, and a large number of farmers participated in this program.
