Public participation is key in environmental protection

The opinion piece stated that environmental protection is not the sole responsibility of governments, but that local people also have a key role to play. Taking the example of the Chennai Pallikaranai wetlands, it explained that natural resources can be effectively protected if civil society, environmental activists and scientists work together.
