New impetus for Meghalaya’s organic spice industry

The largest organic spice processing center in Northeast India, which has been inaugurated in Meghalaya, will provide new opportunities to local farmers. The center has been set up with a capacity to process 10,000 metric tons of spices per year. It will be used for processing turmeric, pepper and other organic spices. Officials said that about 5,500 farmers will directly benefit. Experts believe that the income of farmers has the potential to increase by adding value to agricultural products. This project will contribute to the development of the agricultural sector in the Northeast.
