On the orders of the Chairman of the Nellore District Legal Services Authority, District Chief Justice G Srinivas, a legal science conference was organized on Monday under the auspices of the Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Senior Civil Judge Y J Padmasree, on the prevention of abuse of the elderly. A legal science conference was organized at the Bapuji Old Age Home in Narayan Reddypet and Netaji Old Age Home in Dosakayala Dibba. Speaking at the conference, Senior Civil Judge Y J Padmasree, District Legal Services Authority, said that the main purpose of this day is to protect the rights of the elderly worldwide and create awareness in the society against abuse, discrimination and violence against them. Addressing the elderly, he expressed his concern that it is a shameful thing to neglect parents and other elderly people in the family in old age. He said that many people who have raised their children and educated them and made them useful should not neglect the elderly and are being thrown out of the house. In order to protect such people in old age, the Parents’ Senior Citizens’ Maintenance and Welfare Act was enacted in 2007. He said that the burden of maintaining parents is on their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren or all relatives who have the opportunity to receive property from them. He also said that if you do not have Aadhaar cards or ration cards, we will inform the higher authorities and get them for you. He also asked them in detail about the food, accommodation, bathrooms and medical facilities they are receiving. Next, bananas were grown for the elderly. Next, a legal aid clinic help desk was opened. In this program, Lok Adalat staff, Para Legal Voluntary Pesala Venugopal K Surendrababu and Penchalamma S.K. Sadhik, President of Bapuji Old Age Home, and others participated.
