*House-to-house survey? ‘Come here’ survey* *Officials who violated the rules in N. Gollapalle* *The way they sit in one place instead of going to the houses* *People facing various difficulties* The ‘House-to-house survey’ undertaken by the government with great ambition is being abused at the field level. The rule is that the officials should go to every house and know the details of the people and their problems. However, in N. Gollapalle village under Nagisettipalle panchayat of Brahmangarimatham mandal, the situation is different. There is severe criticism that the officials who were supposed to conduct the survey are trying to complete the survey process by flouting the rules and sitting in one place. Instead of going to every house in the village, the officials who came for the survey stopped at a specific place in the village. They asked all the people in the village to come to the place where they were sitting. Due to this, the villagers, the elderly and women have to leave all their work and reach that place. People are facing severe difficulties while waiting for hours. *What do the rules say? What is happening at the field level?* According to the government guidelines, the survey staff should go to every house. The living standards and other details of the family should be directly observed and recorded. But, in N. Gollapalle, to reduce their workload, the officials are just sitting in one place and filling out forms with minimal information from those who come and seem ‘mama’. Social analysts are concerned that doing this will damage the original purpose of the survey and the details of the real beneficiaries and victims will not be recorded properly. Higher officials should respond: On the one hand, while the government is ordering to conduct the survey transparently, the negligence of some officials at the field level is giving the government a bad name. The villagers are demanding that the district higher officials immediately respond to this thread happening in Nagishettipalle Panchayat. They want action to be taken against the negligent officials and orders to go to every house and conduct the survey as per the rules. When the BLO and survey officials were asked to explain this, they questioned what was wrong with sitting in one place and conducting the survey. They said that people were not responding properly when they went door to door, that the houses were locked or that the details of the elders were not known in the houses where the newly arrived daughters-in-law were. The survey staff defended that if ten people were together, they would ask each other and clearly tell the complete details of the voters, and that they would go to the houses of those who did not come here later. However, the villagers are angry that it is not right to make the elderly and women wander around in the sun under the pretext of collecting information. They are demanding that the higher officials respond and go to every house and ensure that the survey is conducted as per the rules.
