In the wake of the increasing number of stray dog attacks in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the Madras High Court has accepted a public interest litigation suo motu. It has directed the state governments to strictly implement the guidelines given by the Supreme Court recently. The court has come to the notice of the court that while 6.25 lakh dog bite cases and 34 deaths were registered in Tamil Nadu in 2025, 2.63 lakh cases were registered in the first four months of 2026 alone. The court has made it clear that immediate action should be taken on the problem of stray dogs, which is becoming a threat to the safety of people.
