-Nellore: The month-long ‘Operation Clean Sweep’ under the auspices of the Municipal Corporation has concluded. Officials supervised the sanitation work at the Bara Shaheed Dargah. As part of the “Swachh Andhra – Swarna Andhra” program organized by the Andhra Pradesh State Government every third Saturday, the “Operation Clean Sweep” program, which has been underway for the past month under the auspices of the Nellore Municipal Corporation, was concluded on Saturday, and sanitation work was carried out in the premises of the local Bara Shaheed Dargah under the leadership of Health Department Officer Dr. Dinesh. Speaking on the occasion, the Health Department official said that as part of the “Swachh Andhra – Swarnandhra” program, the necessary sanitation work has been fully undertaken for the upcoming Roti Festival at the local Bara Shaheed Dargah premises, and all precautionary measures are being taken to ensure that devotees coming from far away do not face any inconvenience. Similarly, for the past month, the Operation Clean Sweep program has been taken up as a movement within the municipal corporation, and as part of it, sanitation has been given top priority and sanitation programs have been successfully carried out for a month. It was announced that in the first week, steps have been taken to prevent open defecation within the municipal corporation, and to remove stains of paan and gutka spit in public areas so that the incidents do not recur, thereby making Nellore the cleanest city. In the second week, steps have been taken to keep the drains very clean and to ensure smooth flow of sewage through desilting work. He informed that in the third week, steps have been taken to identify unsanitary commercial areas and provide a permanent solution to their sanitation management. In the fourth week, the doctor announced that the management of public toilets across the city has been examined and a plan has been made to improve sanitation management as required. He announced that the public, all government departments and youth will be involved in the program aimed at making Nellore a clean city. Public representatives under the Nellore Municipal Corporation, sanitation department supervisors, inspectors, ward secretariat sanitation secretaries and staff participated in this program.
