Congress and CPI(M) MPs from Kerala have strongly objected to the removal of Kerala representative T.K. Sivarajan from the Comprehensive Dam Safety Evaluation Committee (CDSEC) that is examining the safety of the Mullaperiyar dam. They alleged that the Centre took this decision without consulting the state government. The MPs said that there is public concern over the safety of the 129-year-old Mullaperiyar dam as it is located in an earthquake-prone area. They warned that any mishap at the dam could pose a threat to the lives of lakhs of people. They urged the Centre to reinstate Sivarajan in the committee.
