BRS city leaders expressed their anger over the non-functioning of street lights in many areas of Khammam city for months and the accumulation of sanitation problems. They submitted a memorandum to this effect with Municipal Deputy Commissioner Srinivas. They said that people have been facing difficulties due to non-functioning street lights in many divisions for three to four months, and that the damaged lights are not being repaired or new ones are being installed. They said that the mosquito menace has increased due to the accumulation of garbage and sewage, and people are falling ill. They asked the authorities to pay special attention to sanitation during the rainy season. Local Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao suggested that they should not limit themselves to foundation stone laying and inauguration ceremonies but should focus on field-level problems. He recalled that during the tenure of former Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar, officials used to tour the city along with the people and solve problems. He warned that if civic services did not improve, they would launch a movement on behalf of the people. Former Deputy Mayor Bathula Murali, Pagadala Nagaraju, Bachu Vijay Kumar and several BRS leaders participated in the program.
