Atmakur, July 5 (Representative of Harikiran, Punnami):
The historic Sri Nagalingeswara Swamy Temple in Perumallapadu, Chejarla Mandal, under the Atmakur constituency of Nellore district, is taking steps towards regaining its former glory once again. State Endowments and Charitable Endowments Minister Atmakur MLA Anam Rama Narayana Reddy, with the special initiative of the Minister, conducted a grand Bhoomi Pooja on Sunday and started the work for the reconstruction of this ancient Shaivite temple. The program was held in a very spiritual atmosphere amidst the chanting of mantras by Vedic scholars, Poornakumbha welcome, special homas, and Shiva worship. The villagers and devotees expressed their joy and thanked the minister for initiating the reconstruction of the temple.
The temple will be built magnificently with the funds of Rs. 1.50 crore CGF under the auspices of the Endowment Department. The temple has been designed in a spacious courtyard of about five acres adjacent to the road, following the rules of Indian temple architecture, Sanatan traditions, and Agama Shastra. The authorities have planned to develop the temple with all the facilities like the main sanctum, Mukha Mandapam, precinct walls, flagpole, yagasala, relaxation facilities for devotees, drinking water, electricity, sanitation facilities, and a garden. This historic temple, located on the banks of the Penna river, is recognized as an ancient Shaiva temple built about 200 to 300 years ago. Over time, due to floods and natural disasters, the temple fell into disrepair and was hidden under sand dunes. Later, with the efforts of the locals, the temple’s remains came to light, and the demand to bring it back to its former glory has been going on for many years. In this context, the long-standing wish of the villagers was fulfilled when Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy took a special initiative and sanctioned the necessary funds for the reconstruction of the temple and started the work.

After the Bhoomi Pooja, Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy performed special pujas and sought the blessings of the Lord. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the state government is giving utmost priority to the preservation and restoration of ancient temples. He said that the government’s goal is to provide Indian culture and traditions to future generations by preserving temples of spiritual and historical importance.
The Minister stated that the Sri Nagalingeswara Swamy Temple is not just a temple, but a symbol of the history, culture and spiritual heritage of the region. He expressed hope that with the reconstruction of the temple, the devotees will get better facilities and the Perumallapadu area will develop as a spiritual tourism center. The temple construction has been done using traditional methods. Officials said that great importance will be given to sculpture. It was revealed that the sanctum sanctorum, Mukha Mandapam, Gopuram and Prakaram will be constructed according to Shaiva Agama Shastra and the surroundings of the temple will be decorated in accordance with the spiritual atmosphere. Special arrangements will be made for the devotees to have a comfortable darshan. Locals believe that this temple has the potential to become one of the prominent Shaiva temples in Nellore district after the reconstruction is completed. They believe that this temple, especially located on the banks of the Penna River, has the potential to attract devotees and will develop into a spiritual center where devotees from all over the state will come in the future.
Minister Anam stated that the restoration of ancient temples will provide a boost to spirituality as well as local economic development. He said that with the development of temples, tourism will increase, local businesses and employment opportunities will expand, and this will contribute to the development of rural areas. The Minister clarified that this temple will be built in a way that will provide a spiritual experience to the devotees and showcase the glory of Indian culture and Sanatana Dharma to future generations. He instructed the officials to complete the work within the stipulated time and make it available to the devotees. Speaking, the villagers expressed happiness that their dream, which they have been waiting for for decades, is being fulfilled today. They especially thanked Minister Anam Rama Narayana Reddy, who worked hard for the reconstruction of the temple. They expressed hope that Perumallapadu village will get a new identity after the completion of this temple.
A large number of endowment department officials, public representatives, Vedic scholars, local leaders, village elders, and devotees participated in the special pujas. The Bhoomi Puja program, which was held amidst the chanting of Govinda’s name, Vedic chants, and the playing of auspicious instruments, ended successfully amidst devotion.
