Journalists’ demands should be resolved. TUWJ organizes ‘Demands Day’ in front of Gandhi statue. Petition to the President through RDO Nirmal. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, TUWJ (IJU) District President Konduri Ravinder and General Secretary Bhumiah organized a protest program in Nirmal district center. On this occasion, a protest rally was organized from R&B Guest House to Gandhi Park. They protested in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Park. A petition was submitted to the statue of Mahatma. The Demands Day protest was conducted and a petition was submitted to the President through RDO Devidas. District President Konduri Ravinder said… The Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti is being observed as ‘Working Journalists’ Demands Day’. He demanded the formation of a comprehensive media commission. He said that it is urgent to form a new media commission to comprehensively review this sector and formulate policy recommendations suitable for the modern era. He demanded the formulation of a special central law for the safety of journalists and media organizations. The press sector serves as the fourth pillar of Indian democracy. An independent and safe media environment is the foundation of the health of democracy. Physical attacks, arbitrary detentions, online harassment, and institutional threats are increasingly being faced. To ensure that media personnel can perform their duties fearlessly, the central government should introduce a strong, independent national law that protects journalists, media personnel, and news organizations from violence and undue oppression. He demanded the immediate restoration of the special protections first guaranteed under the 1955 and 1958 acts. It was set up two decades ago, in 2007, for media employees. Despite the cost of living and inflation increasing exponentially, and salaries being revised from time to time in the government and corporate sectors, media workers have not received statutory wage updates. They requested that a new wage council be set up to recommend fair, inflation-adjusted compensation structures, including print, broadcast and digital media personnel. They demanded that the issue of houses and land be resolved for journalists in the state as promised by the Congress government in its election manifesto, as well as providing health cards to journalists like employees and providing cashless treatment, and that an appropriate law be brought to stop the constant attacks on journalists. In support of journalists, CPI(M) Mass Line Praja Pantha Joint District Secretary Nandi Ramaiah, Nirmal District Secretary K. Rajanna, PDSU District Secretary Kiran, BC SC ST Sangam District President Y. Sayanna, Dharma Samaj Party State Secretary Ramagiri Ravinder, Aam Aadmi Party State Joint Secretary Haider participated in the protest and raised their voices in support.
