CPI Nandyal District Secretary N. Ranga Naidu and District Assistant Secretary S. Baba Fakhruddin demanded that the cancellation and relocation of RTC buses used by ordinary passengers for Chief Minister’s meetings and other official government programs be stopped immediately, and that new buses be allocated to Nandyal district to meet the increasing passenger traffic and the number of buses be increased. They made the demand in a statement on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, they said that after the coalition government came to power in the state, the number of passengers in RTC buses has increased drastically due to the provision of free bus travel facilities to women. Earlier, passengers from rural and urban areas also relied on autos and private vehicles, but with the advent of the free bus system, auto drivers and private vehicle owners were not able to make ends meet and had to look for other means of employment. With this, ordinary passengers, women, the elderly and all rural people have to completely depend on RTC services. However, they expressed their concern that many buses in several depots in Nandyal district are not fit and the number of existing buses is being reduced day by day, causing severe transportation difficulties for passengers. They said that especially students, employees and patients coming to the city from rural areas have to wait for hours at bus stands as buses do not arrive on time. They said that students are suffering severely as they cannot reach schools and colleges on time. In such difficult circumstances, they questioned how reasonable it is to cancel and divert hundreds of RTC buses from routes for CM and ministerial meetings or official functions. They said that it is cruel to make the common people stand on the streets and divert buses to government meetings. They demanded that the government should respond at least now and end the practice of sending RTC buses to CM meetings, allocate new buses to depots in Nandyal district in place of old buses, and increase Palle Velugu and Express services to solve the transportation problems. Otherwise, they warned that they would launch public movements under the auspices of the CPI.
