The Indian government will send a special delegation to the funeral of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, official sources said. The delegation is likely to be led by Bihar Governor Lt. Gen. (retd) Syed Ata Hasnain and Minister of State for External Affairs Pavitra Margherita. The decision was reportedly taken after Prime Minister Narendra Modi was unable to attend due to foreign trips. However, some former diplomats felt that India should have sent a higher-level representative keeping in mind its historical ties with Iran. The visit has assumed significance for India-Iran bilateral relations.
