How did Muthukuru in Nellore district get its name?

Muthukur was a famous village almost a thousand years ago. Muthukur was very important due to the nearby Krishnapatnam port. It is said that the village got its name due to the export of pearls. Manumasiddhi’s father, who ruled Simhapuri in the 13th century, had the title ‘Gandagopala’. It was during his time that the Siddheshwara temple was built. It was developed during Manumasiddhi’s time and became Manumasiddheshwara temple. Krishnapatnam was also known as Gandagopalapatnam at that time. In ancient times, Krishnapatnam was known as ‘Kolliturai’. Turai means port town. Based on this, it can be said that Muthukur and its surroundings were very important for exports and imports in ancient times and were famous for foreign trade. Currently, Krishnapatnam Port, located just a stone’s throw from Muthukur, is one of the largest port cities in the world and the number one source of economic resources in our state. It is because of Krishnapatnam that Muthukur has now acquired world-class importance.
