Maithri Auto Union elections in Manthani

Manthani, September 30:

There is excitement among auto drivers as the Maithri Auto Union elections are scheduled to be held in Manthani town of Peddapalli district on Thursday. Members are waiting for the leadership that will work to resolve the future activities of the union, resolve the problems of auto drivers, and ensure that they receive the benefits of government schemes.

Kalepelli Srinivas, who previously served as the president of the Maitri Auto Union from 2020 to 2024, said he is contesting on the horse symbol this time. His followers say that he will work to solve the problems of auto drivers with past experience.

Speaking on the occasion, union members Egolapu Sammayya Goud and Tungala Raju Patel alleged that their problems were not adequately resolved during the previous regime. They said that the union leadership needs to bring the issues affecting the livelihood of auto drivers, in particular, to the attention of the government.

Many auto drivers have expressed concern that the implementation of the Mahalaxmi scheme is affecting their income, they said. However, the Telangana government has officially stated that women, girls and transgender people are being provided free travel in RTC buses under the Mahalaxmi scheme.

“The government should take special steps to protect the livelihood of auto drivers. Leadership is needed on behalf of the union to strongly bring the problems of drivers to the attention of the government. Special attention should be paid to issues like welfare schemes, financial assistance, and professional safety for auto drivers,” they urged.

The members are of the opinion that the Maitri Auto Union elections should not be limited to the selection of a president, but that a new executive committee should work towards collectively resolving the problems of auto drivers. After the elections, the Maitri Auto Union drivers are demanding that Manthani formulate an action plan on the main problems of the drivers and bring them to the attention of the relevant government departments.
