Railway Kodur: A meeting of Anganwadi workers was held at the AITUC office under the auspices of the AP Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association. Speaking on the occasion, the association’s state vice-president Nandyala Sarojanamma said that while Anganwadi workers receive a salary of Rs. 11,500 and helpers receive Rs. 7,000, it has become difficult to feed families at the current prices. In the wake of the sharp increase in the prices of essential commodities, cooking gas, petrol, diesel and vegetables, a family needs an income of at least Rs. 36 thousand per month for survival. She urged the central and state governments to consider the situation of Anganwadi families and increase their salaries. They demanded that pension facilities be provided to Anganwadi workers and helpers and pensions should also be provided to widows, single women and disabled people in their families. Anganwadi project president K. Nirmala, Secretary Y. Vijayalakshmi and others participated.
