The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition filed regarding the appointment of judges of the Himachal Pradesh High Court. A judge had approached the court challenging the recommendation of junior judges to the High Court. However, the Supreme Court made it clear that the appointments of judges are made on the basis of the personal assessments of the collegium and judicial interference in them can be limited. It observed that seniority alone does not give the right to appointment. The court held that exceptional circumstances should be present to question the recommendations of the collegium.
